In a special bulletin just announced, Budapest Airport has stressed that it remains open for flights, both incoming and departing. Travelling from Hungary is not restricted – although, of course, there may be certain regulations concerning the passenger’s destination – while Hungarians are allowed to enter the country. The airport is also working round the clock to ensure the seamless and vital operation of air cargo. More details below.

After last Tuesday’s announcement concerning airport arrivals into Hungary – only Hungarian passengers and immediate families travelling as a group with them are being allowed in – Budapest Airport has reiterated that it is still very much in operation. Travelling out of Hungary, whether as a foreigner or a Hungarian is not restricted, and flights are leaving. Non-Hungarian nationals coming into the country are being held in transit and put on the next available flight.

The airport’s cargo operation is now a vital lifeline for Hungary, recently receiving several pallets of medical equipment from Turkey, and 11 tons of protective medical equipment from China, including 30,050 items of clothing and 82,000 medicinal face masks.

Financial security for airport staff is also a priority, with March salaries including the agreed wage increase and performance-based bonuses for 2019.
